Pharmacist – International Assignment

About the role

International SOS Government Medical Services seeks a qualified pharmacist to establish and operate a dispensing pharmacy in Balad, Iraq. The role combines patient counseling, medication safety, and formulary management in a deployed environment.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and run a dispensing pharmacy, handling prescription intake, accurate packaging, dispensing, and record‑keeping.
• Counsel patients on medication use, adverse reactions, and polypharmacy; provide guidance to healthcare practitioners.
• Chair the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, develop and manage the formulary, and oversee non‑formulary and controlled medications.
• Manage medication ordering, inventory, cold‑chain storage, and budget compliance.
• Maintain regulatory compliance, conduct controlled‑drug inventories, audits, and report discrepancies.
• Participate in quality‑improvement activities, adverse‑drug‑reaction reporting, and mass‑casualty drills.

Required profile

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent degree with a current pharmacy license.
• Minimum three years of pharmacy practice, including recent experience within the past 12 months.
• Fluency in spoken and written English.
• Ability to obtain medical clearance, maintain immunizations, and hold a valid passport.
• Physical ability to stand, sit, bend, stoop, and lift up to 15 lb.
