Mechanical Engineer – Onshore Project, Basra, Iraq

About the role

Wood is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its Iraq Business Unit in Basra. The role focuses on delivering high-quality engineering work on on‑shore brownfield projects, ensuring compliance with schedule and client requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver mechanical engineering and design deliverables for flare system revamps, BTEX emission control and equipment upgrades.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams during design, construction, pre‑commissioning and start‑up phases.
• Liaise with client engineering, operations and maintenance personnel to ensure consistent project execution.
• Provide technical support on‑site and verify piping engineering documentation.
• Promote safe behaviour and uphold quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Required profile

• Qualified Mechanical Engineer with experience in on‑shore oil & gas projects.
• Proven ability to work on‑site in Basra with occasional travel.
• Strong communication skills to interact with client and internal teams.

Required skills

• Piping engineering and design.
• Flare system revamp and gas recovery.
• BTEX emission control techniques.
