Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) – Archaeology Consultant

About the role
HAMAP Humanitaire is seeking an experienced archaeologist/heritage specialist to conduct a UNESCO‑aligned Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) for a priority archaeological site in Iraq (e.g., Eridu, Kisiga, or Tell Zaid). The consultant will work closely with the organisation’s Regional EOD Technical Advisor to embed heritage protection into mine‑action planning.
Key responsibilities
- Perform a baseline heritage survey and document attributes related to Outstanding Universal Value (OUV).
- Identify and evaluate risks posed by explosive ordnance to archaeological resources.
- Develop avoidance, mitigation and monitoring measures in line with UNESCO and ICOMOS methodology.
- Prepare a comprehensive HIA report and provide technical guidance for integrating findings into clearance operations.
- Coordinate with the Iraqi Directorate of Mine Action, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, and local partners.
Required profile
- Qualified archaeologist or heritage professional with proven experience in heritage impact assessments.
- Familiarity with UNESCO‑endorsed and ICOMOS‑referenced procedures for World Heritage contexts.
- Experience working in conflict‑affected environments, preferably in Iraq or the Middle East.
- Strong analytical and report‑writing abilities.
