Business Expert – National Position

About the role

AVSI is seeking a Business Expert to support an AICS‑funded programme that assists start‑ups and MSMEs in Fallujah, Iraq. The role involves coaching grant beneficiaries, monitoring business performance and ensuring the sustainability of newly created enterprises.

Key responsibilities

• Provide continuous coaching and mentorship to beneficiaries of business grants.
• Assist beneficiaries in developing and refining business plans, budget plans and financial forecasts.
• Collect, review and give structured feedback on business and budget plans, ensuring compliance with documentation requirements.
• Conduct regular field visits to monitor grant usage, business progress, operational status and identify risks.
• Offer on‑site troubleshooting, basic financial‑literacy support and promote good business practices such as record‑keeping and customer relations.
• Maintain detailed records of visits and coaching sessions; update the beneficiary tracking system with status, indicators, challenges and risks.
• Prepare and share regular reports on number of visits, business progress, key issues and recommendations.
• Support the project team in trainings, assessments, data collection and the organisation of business events.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in business development, MSME support or grant management.
• Strong analytical abilities to evaluate business plans and financial projections.
• Excellent communication skills in Arabic and English.
• Ability to work independently in the field and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
