Emergency Education & Early Childhood Development Coordinator (Global Surge Team)

About the role

The Global Surge Team (GST) of the International Rescue Committee is seeking an Emergency Education, Early Childhood & Development Coordinator. This role provides short‑term, high‑impact support to emergency and hard‑to‑reach contexts, ensuring that children have access to safe, quality education during crises.

Key responsibilities

• Deploy on short notice (within 72 hours) to emergency sites for assignments up to three months.
• Assess education and early‑childhood needs in acute humanitarian settings.
• Design, implement and monitor early‑childhood development programmes aligned with IRC standards.
• Provide technical guidance and capacity‑building to local partners and frontline staff.
• Coordinate with the Emergency Unit and other IRC teams to integrate education interventions into broader response plans.
• Document lessons learned and produce timely reports for stakeholders.

Required profile

• Demonstrated commitment to humanitarian principles and a passion for improving children’s lives.
• Experience working in emergency education or early‑childhood development, preferably in international contexts.
• Ability to work under pressure, adapt quickly to changing environments and travel frequently.
• Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse partners and communities.
